Fashionable, famous, and just plain freaky denizens of Bangkok flocked to On Nut last Friday night for Vogue Thailand’s launch party at Sena Warehouse on Sukhumvit Soi 50.
Traffic on the way to the event, unfortunately, was absolutely horrific and it took your humble correspondents 1.5 hours to get there in a taxi from Thonglor.
Some questioned why Vogue would hold an event near an expressway on-ramp in an industrial part of town on a Friday night at rush hour. Others just enjoyed the free flowing alcohol.
Glammed-up models waited impatiently in a massive line at the mouth of Soi 50 for motorcycle taxis to pick them up and deliver them to the party, while German luxury sedans idled along with 18-wheel gas tanker trucks in the standstill traffic.
At the red carpet entryway, un-invited neighborhood locals crowded the gates to observe the strange hi-so human wildlife.
Once everyone had arrived and the party got into full swing, attitudes seemed to improve – no doubt aided by ample helpings of Johnny Walker Gold Label Whiskey and Ciroc Vodka – as a Thai band belted out a few numbers followed by DJs playing dance-able electronic and hip-hop.
Like the launch of the magazine itself, the night featured plenty of glamour, but was not without its hiccups.
