Don Mueang Airport slashes food and drink prices for Songkran

Just in time for Songkran, Don Mueang International Airport will slash its sky-high food and drink prices following complaints from the public.

Ombudsman Wittawat Ratchatanan said yesterday Airports of Thailand (AOT) had agreed to decrease the prices of food and drinks at both terminals of the low-cost hub after a meeting with the Department of Internal Trade of Thailand.

In the meeting, Witthawat said AOT was asked to ensure the food and drink prices at Don Mueang are fair to the public. They reached an agreement that a standard-sized bottle of water, currently sold for THB20 – THB30, should not exceed THB10.

Meanwhile, a single Thai dish such as noodles and a curry-on-rice dish should cost less than THB50, the same price as on the streets and at food courts in Bangkok.

The new prices will become effective on April 10 as a “Thai New Year gift” for passengers.

AOT is responsible for agreeing the prices with shops at the airport.

Violators could face 7 years in prison and a fine of THB140,000, Bangkok Biz News reported.

While we cannot imagine franchise restaurants selling their food at THB50, we hope prices will at least be the same as at their branches outside the airport.
