Bail has been set for a 19-year-old university student suspected of murdering his family because his mother wouldn’t let him drive her car drunk.

A court in Thanyaburi province yesterday set a THB500,000 bail for Akarawat Soraprom, who police said confessed to shooting his parents in bed after initially blaming it on his younger brother, who Akarawat also killed.

Additionally, police said that Akarawat explained he could not handle ongoing criticism from his mother, who had promised to buy him a car if he got into a university.

Before shooting his parents and brother early Saturday morning, Akarawat said his mother wouldn’t let him take their car to pick up his girlfriend because he was drunk.

He’s not accused of premeditated murder, a crime punishable by death.

Somkid Udneam – Akarawat’s aunt – described the family as “a happy one,” Bangkok Post reported.
