What makes people happy? Long holidays? A wage rise? According to a recent poll, Ratchanok Intanon becoming the world’s top-ranked badminton star is what makes Thais happy.
The 21-year-old Thai also became the first female player to capture three Superseries (top tier) titles in a row earlier this month.
The Suan Dusit Poll was carried out on 1,286 people throughout the country from April 18-23.
Asked to mention three news items or events which made them happy, 87.09% of the respondents said the news about Ratchanok; 70.75% liked the government’s announcements of long holidays; and, 64.31% are happy with the wage rise, tax restructure and tax waivers for holiday spending.
Ratchanok, from Yasothon, turned professional in 2007. At 18, she stunned London Olympic gold medallist Li Xuerui to reign supreme in the 2013 World Championships.
When the respondents were asked to name three news items which caused them stress, 86.16% of the respondents mentioned the political situation, the draft charter and political rallies; 81.73% pointed to drought, heat and water shortages; and, 79.47% mentioned the economic downturn, high goods prices and low farm prices, reported Bangkok Post.
