Authorities are considering a lifetime driving ban for the Mercedes driver involved in the fatal crash in Ayutthaya in which two people were killed.
Jenphop Weeraporn, 37, has been charged with reckless driving over the incident, during which he was driving at an estimated speed of 250 kph when he crashed into a car, killing Kritsana Thaworn, 32, and Thanthapat Horsaeng, 34.
He is also facing an additional DUI charge after he refused a sobriety test on the day of the crash.
Now officials investigating the crash are considering permanently revoking Jenphop’s driver’s license if the evidence shows he was driving recklessly and dangerously, Thai PBS reported.
Pol Lt Col Nithi Banthuwong, the deputy commander of the Zone 1 Institute of Training and Research of Scientific Crime Detection said officials have found conclusive evidence that Jenphop was driving recklessly.
Investigators found long skid marks several meters long showing that the vehicle was traveling at a very high speed, which confirmed that the Mercedes driver was driving recklessly.
However they need the Mercedes Benz specialists to confirm the exact speed the car was traveling at when it hit the students’ Ford Fiesta.
Jenphop is still being treated at Samitivej Hospital in Bangkok, where doctors will operate on his injured knee.
His family said that as soon as he is able to walk again he will make reparations and give compensation to the families of the victims, and will also become a monk to make merit.
