Over 4 years since its carpark closed, parking will be available again Changi Airport’s Terminal 1 next week

As anyone who’ve ever dropped or picked up friends and family at Changi Airport’s Terminal 1 would know, the absence of a carpark there is highly vexing. For years, folks would have to park their vehicles at Terminal 2, wait for a Skytrain to arrive, hop on it, and arrive about 10 minutes later at T1.

Considering that the “secret” staff canteen is at T1, you can imagine the annoyance of people in the know having to leave their vehicles in another terminal to nosh on Changi Airport’s best food offerings.

Welp, good news then. On Nov 20, the new T1 carpark — situated within Jewel Changi Airport — will officially open, and it’ll be bigger than ever. The underground carpark will boast a total of 2,500 parking spaces across five levels, with 440 lots reserved for short-term parking, which is great for motorists seeing off or greeting travelers. The rest of the spaces for drivers and visitors anticipating a longer stay can will progressively be available until the time Jewel officially opens early next year.

In comparison, the old open-air carpark at T1 only had 850 parking spaces. It was shut down and removed back in 2015 to make way for the construction of Jewel, the billion-dollar development that will feature hundreds of retail, dining, entertainment and lodging concepts across five floors, as well as majestic aesthetics such as a towering waterfall and garden greenery as far as the eye can see.

Once Jewel Changi Airport opens, it’s expected to receive about 40 to 50 million visitors a year, with 60 percent of which will be locals — so yeah, it’ll need all the parking space it can offer.

More details on T1’s parking rates available on the Changi Airport Group website.
