VIRAL: In the wake of supertyphoon, tornado crashes wedding ceremony in Marikina

It looks like a scene straight from a disaster movie.

In the wake of Supertyphoon ‘Ompong’ (international name Mangkhut), a rare tornado crashed a wedding party in Kapitan Moy, Marikina City, Metro Manila on Friday afternoon.

In a now-viral Facebook video posted by Von Eric Espina, the newlywed couple was making their way to the stage when they heard a loud noise outside. A few seconds of terror was followed by a black-out, which sent everyone in a flurry of panicked screams.

According to an ABS-CBN News report, a tornado with a 1-kilometer radius hit Marikina and affected about 20 houses in the villages of San Roque and Santa Elena. According to Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro, among those damaged by the tornado is the Marikina Cultural Center, an 800-square meter adobe structure, which saw the entire roof stripped off.

Local authorities are now assessing the damages in the city.

Another footage of the tornado went viral on Friday afternoon.
