Two Indonesian domestic workers were tied up and held at knifepoint last night during a terrifying home invasion by two thieves, who remain on the run.
A city-wide manhunt is underway following the aggravated burglary at a luxury three-storey sea view house on Stanley’s Tai Tam Road, according to Ming Pao.
It occurred about 7:30pm while the homeowners, a 74-year-old doctor and his wife, according to the SCMP, were out for dinner.
According to HK01, one of the domestic workers, a 43-year-old Indonesian national named Idawati, was outside taking out the garbage when she was confronted by a man wielding a knife with a 30 centimeter blade.
Forced back into the house, she and her fellow domestic worker Rusmiati, a 42-year-old, also from Indonesia, were tied up in the basement with adhesive tape, while the man and another suspect ransacked the house.
The men stole two mobile phones and more than HK$80,000 (US$10,000) in cash before escaping after about an hour.
The two workers eventually managed to untie themselves and call their employers who returned home shortly before 11pm and called officers.
According to HK01, Western district police are looking for one large man aged 30 to 40-years-old, and a thin man aged between 25 to 35-years-old. Both men are between 1.7 to 1.75 meters tall wearing black shirts and black hats.
HK01 reports that the house belongs to the So family, and that the current owner of the house is a doctor called Bernard So Kai-fai. His uncle was kidnapped in 2002 in Tsim Sha Tsui by two mainland gunmen, who were demanding a ransom of HK$5 million from the So family.
They eventually reduced the ransom amount to HK$200,000, and So, the uncle, was eventually saved and a 27-year-old gangster was arrested and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
