A Norwegian man was found dead inside of an automobile parked outside his favorite bakery on Koh Samui yesterday afternoon.

A bakery worker discovered Espen Sollien, 28, dead in the driver’s seat at about 4:30pm, after the tourist parked the car on Thaweerat Phakdee Road across from the bakery but did not get out for more than an hour.

The bakery worker, who was not identified, said that Sollien was staying in a rented room not far from the shop, and often stopped by for baked goods.

Meanwhile, a Thai female friend, 25 year-old Pattama Sakulwong, told police Sollien had been staying in Koh Samui for about three weeks before his death, and that the car belonged to a friend who lives in Bangkok.

She described him as a pleasant man who was always in a good mood and could often be spotted hanging out in a local bar, Onb News reported.

According to Sanook, Sollien visited Koh Samui often, living on the island for as much as half the year at times.

As his body showed no signs of violence, police are currently operating under the assumption that he died from heart failure. They have sent his body to Surat Thani hospital for an autopsy and notified the Norwegian Embassy.
