Damn, how many of these indexes and studies need to be done to hammer in the fact that Singaporeans own one of the most top-tier passports in the world?
Results from yet another updated passport index have been released, and like many, many, times before, Singapore and Germany cut close to hold the best passports on earth. This time, in the Henley Passport Index, the Little Red Dot lands in second place, behind top dog Germany.
Formerly known as the Henley & Partners Visa Restriction Index, the ranking — described as the “most rigorous and sophisticated measure of global access” — takes into account 219 different countries and territories, and is the *only* index based on exclusive travel information and data derived from the International Air Transport Association.
But putting aside all that jargon and technicalities, what matters here is that Singapore is once again proven to have one of the most sought-after passports in the world. The 2018 Henley Passport Index sees Singapore climbing two spots up the ranks with visa-free access to 176 countries. But still, we lag behind Germany, which has visa-free access to 177 nations.
Regionally, Singapore retains its number one spot, but others are moving up too — Malaysia climbed up one spot to 12th place globally, while Indonesia rose by seven spots to 72nd place. Thailand is now at 64th place globally and 5th regionally, while the Philippines shared the 72nd spot with neighbors Indonesia.
