On social media this week, photos of a villa being built along a scenic stretch of road in Phuket enraged netizens, who say it completely blocks what had been a gorgeous sunset lookout point.

A Facebook user posted drone footage of the beautiful site the villa is being built on:

Due to the all the attention the construction was getting, officials went to check out the site to ensure that the owner was not breaking any laws with the four-structure, eight-bedroom, three-floor, two-swimming pool THB20 million villa he was building, reported Manager.

The viral meme that started the online uproar.  It was posted by Facebook user Bank Thanadon, who captioned it, “I don’t know what insult to use. I don’t know who to insult. The first time I saw this, I was speechless.”

It was discovered that, while the owner, an unnamed Bangkok millionaire, owns the land and had permission to build there, he was breaching his building permit by creating  a structure taller than what is allowed for a structure so close to the water. The driveway he was building was not in the construction plans.

Due to these irregularities, Rawai Municipality officials have ordered construction stopped on the villa at Nai Harn Beach, on Phuket southwest coast.

However, netizens calling for the villa to be ripped down and the view (and peace) restored, that’s not going to happen.

Rawai Mayor Aroon Solos ordered all work on the building to stop and that the building’s plans must be updated and resubmitted to Rawai Municipality for approval. He also noted that all unapproved parts of the structure will need to be removed within 30 days.
