A viral message has been circulating on Facebook saying that the Philippine Red Cross (PRD) has issued a warning that four women from Basilan are “plotting to do suicide bombings in malls in Manila.”

According to the viral message, all malls in Manila are on high alert. Recipients are asked to spread the word via personal messages instead of posting on Facebook walls for security purposes.

What does those kinds of messages usually mean? Nothing. It’s fake.

.“The Philippine Red Cross has not sent out text messages, private messages via Facebook, or other social media platforms warning the public against going to malls due to a security threat,” said PRC Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon.

The statement also emphasized that security warnings should be issued by “the national government, particularly the security offices.” Statements from PRC will only come from the chairman and/or the secretary general.

PRC also asked the public to be prudent in sharing unverified information because it might cause “unnecessary panic and fear.”

So please, do think before you post.
