The couple behind the restaurant and bakeshop Wildflour Cafe + Bakery, and ice cream shop Farmacy is bringing a little piece of the Philippines to the Grand Central Market in Los Angeles.

Filipina pastry chef Margarita Manzke and her husband chef Walter Manzke will take over the space formerly occupied by Bar Moruno and will call the new hotspot Sari Sari Store, says Eater LA.

Sari-sari can roughly mean “assortment” or “whatever.” In the Philippines, sari-sari stores sell anything and everything, from cigarette sticks to sachets of shampoo. They may be found in every corner of small neighborhoods.

“That’s the ethos of this new restaurant: Small, colorful, and casual,” says the report.

Sari Sari Store’s menu is not final yet, but looks like the plan is to serve the Filipino breakfast staple silog, which is fried rice and egg served with meat or fish.

Margarita — who studied at Le Cordon Bleu in London and The Culinary Institute of America in New York — will also create desserts and pastries. You can expect her version of the popular Filipino shaved ice dessert halo-halo.

In December 2014, Margarita and Walter opened Republique in South La Brea Avenue. The brasserie has appeared on many ‘best-of’ lists including this.
