It’s official — Central Perk cafe is opening in Singapore! First launched as a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, the concept has since picked up momentum and garnered a whole lot of love from fellow fans. Put together by 28-year-old Singaporean Lim Jit Min, who’s been a hardcore fan of US TV sitcom Friends for years, the idea of bringing the fictional NYC coffee house to life in Singapore will soon become a reality.
Tentatively set to open in March 2017, the cafe is looking for locations along Orchard Road, but nothing’s confirmed yet. Lim is still in talks with interested investors to possibly push forward the opening date. And before you bring up copyright issues, yes, they’ve got it under control.
According to Lim, the entire ambience of Central Perk will be recreated, in terms of the design and decor. He’s also got a cafe menu in mind, and it’ll include trending foods to attract the crowds.
But if you’re a true blue Friends follower, you’ll know that there have already been pop-up Central Perk cafes in London, New York City and Sydney, to celebrate milestones of the TV show. Other fans around the world have also recreated their own version of the cafe in China, Egypt and India.
Still, we gotta admit we’re kinda really excited about this. Just one question, though. Will there be a budding singer-songwriter in the cafe corner belting out ‘Smelly Cat’ by Phoebe Buffay?
