A two-meter crocodile caused quite a scene in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday after it wandered onto a main road near a shopping mall.
According to The Star Online, a passer-by reportedly spotted the reptile lepak-ing in front of the Karamunsing shopping complex.
Thinking it was a monitor lizard at first, the passer-by then quickly alerted the Civil Defence Department (JPAM) when the reptile turned out to be, well, not a monitor lizard.
Sabah JPAM director Kol Mulliadi Al Hamdi Ladin told the news portal that a team of JPAM personnel rushed to the scene and managed to subdue and catch the crocodile in just three minutes.
“The crocodile weighing 55kg is believed to have come from a nearby monsoon drain. It was quite aggressive when the team approached it,” Kol Mulliadi was quoted as saying.
He added that the reptile has been handed over to wildlife officials.
A video showing the daring capture managed to find its way online and it has since gone viral on Facebook, having amassed more than 287,000 views and shared more than 10,200 times:
