Hong Kong’s Queen Mary Hospital had to be evacuated last night after an bomb was found at a construction site.
Around 600 people were evacuated from the Pok Fu Lam hospital and nearby residential buildings when the bomb was unearthed by construction workers at about 4:40pm.
The SCMP reports that the rusty object was 30 centimetres long with a diametre of 23 centimetres.
The road leading to the hospital redevelopment site was closed, but all medical services were able to carry on as usual.
A bomb disposal unit carried out a controlled explosion at the site at around 9pm.
This is the second time Queen Mary Hospital has been evacuated because of an unexploded bomb.
In 2000, construction workers found a US-made M64 bomb that was dropped on Hong Kong during the Japanese occupation. Emergency services at the hospital shut down and 1,400 people were evacuated.
