Loy Krathong this year will be celebrated without entertainment and fireworks as Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is toning down the festivities out of respect for the late HM King Bhumibol.
Loy Krathong, the festival held to pay respect to the Goddess of Water, takes place on on Nov. 14 this year. As the key part of the event is to float a flower buoyant or krathong onto the river, public parks will be open for the tradition, but there will be no festivities.
Fireworks are banned in public parks, and people are encouraged to use krathong made from natural materials, Bangkok Biz News reported.
Twenty-eight parks across Bangkok will be open until midnight the public to float their krathong. Among those include Lumpini Park, Wachira Benchathat Park (Suan Rot Fai), Benchasiri Park (next to BTS Phrom Phong), Benjakiti Park and Santi Chai Prakan Park on Phra Arthit Road.
