Taxi drivers, as well as passengers, will no longer be able to enjoy a smoke during their rides, starting September 1.
The Land Transport Department and Department of Disease Control have come together to pass a law for public health mandating that all taxis will be non-smoking zones. In addition to the noted health benefits of not lighting up, no one wants to smell a second-hand stank when they’re on an hour-long ride to the airport.
No-smoking stickers have been passed out to cab drivers for them to display in their vehicles on their front consoles. If a cabbie fails to do so, they will be fined up to THB2,000, reported Thai News Bureau.
No word yet about what the fine is for smoking in a cab after the new law takes effect.
