No delay for auction of 4G licenses

Telecom regulators will go proceed as planned with the auction of 4G mobile phone licenses despite the overthrow of civilian rule.

Licenses for access to the broadcast spectra will be auctioned off by the end of August and possibly November, according to Prasert Silpipat of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.

Commissioner Suthipol Thawichaikarn said there was a new urgency to the effort to give a boost to deteriorating economic conditions.

Service providers have raised complaints about the process, according to Thai PBS.

DTAC would like both auctions held at the same time with a more transparent process for future allocations to help providers plan. The company also complained about the starting price for a piece of the 1,800 MHz spectrum

THB11.6 billion. It suggested a price about two-thirds less would be reasonable.
