A man was allegedly assaulted by a taxi driver in Johor Bahru, according to a post on the Singapore Shout-out Facebook page.

The incident reportedly occurred when the man asked the driver how much he would charge for a ride to Larkin Sentral.

The driver responded that he would charge RM60, which the passenger found to be excessive. In an attempt to find a more reasonable price, the passenger asked other drivers for their rates.

According to the post, the taxi driver became upset when the man did not want to pay the price he had quoted.

The driver allegedly followed the passenger and asked him how much he thought he should be charged for the trip.

The passenger replied that Grab was only charging RM12 for the same journey, and that the taxi driver’s fee was unreasonable. The driver then reportedly shouted at the man, and an argument ensued.

During the altercation, the driver allegedly strangled the passenger, prompting the man to call for help. A few police officers arrived at the scene and instructed the driver to release the man.

Other drivers who witnessed the incident reportedly did not intervene; some even laughed when the man asked them to serve as witnesses.

The Facebook post has since been shared over 1,053 times and it is not known if an official police report was made.
