Controversial Russian daredevil free climber Ivan Beerkus has asked Malaysian authorities to halt their search for him and his partner Angela Nikolau as they are no longer in the country.

He posted on Instagram that he and Nikolau had left the country after successfully climbing Merdeka 118.

“Don’t waste the country’s budget on searches in Malaysia. We are no longer there,” wrote Beerkus.

Despite contradictory reports that the Immigration Department does not have records of them entering and leaving the country, he added that both of them had entered the country lawfully.

The department is currently looking into whether the pair entered Malaysia legally.

On Dec. 27, a photo of the couple at the top of Merdeka 118 was posted on the online forum SkyscraperCity.com.

The Russian daredevils announced their stunt two days later via Instagram posts that showed them perched atop the spire of the tower, which is the second-tallest building in the world behind Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.

Last week, Angela posted her experience climbing the tower, which she said she felt a ‘spiritual’ connection with.

Nikolau shared a thread explaining her experience on Twitter. However, it did not get the desired response from some Malaysians.

Many chastised her and Ivan for feeling entitled to break the law in a foreign country.
