Start getting em’ cultured young – the Children’s Museum Singapore is the first museum dedicated to children 12 years and under and is set to open to the public on Dec. 10.
The building used to be home to the Singapore Philatelic Museum.
In a release, the museum stated that it aspires to be a “place of wonder and joyful learning for all children to engage with Singapore and the world.”
This space for play and learning near Fort Canning spans over two storeys with a permanent exhibition containing four galleries occupying the first floor and three special galleries on the second floor. The special galleries will be refreshed yearly with new programming and exhibitions to keep things fresh.
Kids are recommended to explore the four permanent galleries in order. These galleries – named The Hidden Chamber, Ahoy Singapore, The Marketplace and My Neighbourhood – will take them back in time to learn about the Singapore stories. Manoeuvre through sea ports, marketplaces and then back to the future in a post office where kids can make their own stamps and also write a letter.
The three special galleries on the second floor are currently holding exhibits including one on birthdays where all can learn about how each community celebrates this special day. Other things to check out is a multi-sensory garden-themed one which features paper sculptures of birds, flowers, and more by Colombian artist Diana Beltran Herrera.
Entry to the Children’s Museum Singapore is free until Mar. 31, 2023 but visitors do have to book slots in advance.
