If you’re starting to get annoyed by Netflix’s business drama, like its looming crackdown on password sharing, then it’s time to meet its rival: Amazon Prime Video.
Beginning today, customers in Thailand will find a localized slate of content and Thai language user interface on Prime Video. The service went live today and offers viewers Prime content like the latest James Bond film No Time to Die, the dark superhero TV series The Boys, and the action-packed thriller The Terminal List.
Audiences will also get to relive the harrowing rescue of the Wild Boars football team via the Ron Howard-directed Thirteen Lives, which will premiere on the platform this Friday.
Another highly anticipated Prime original, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, will launch on Sept. 2.
The move is the latest high-profile entry in the red-hot battle between streaming services to score eyeballs in Thailand — Disney+ entered the market last year.
Anyone with an Amazon account gets a seven-day free trial, followed by a promotional subscription fee of THB149 (US$4.13) per month. That’s middle-of-the-pack price-wise, with Netflix subscriptions ranging from THB99 (mobile-only) to THB419 (Ultra HD 4k) and Disney+ priced at THB99 per month or THB499 per year.
Along with the launch in Thailand, the platform also just went live in two other Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia and the Philippines.
While Amazon Prime Video has been available in Southeast Asia for a few years now, the service in the region previously never featured localized content such as subtitles or local-language user interfaces.
