After many delays, a Khao Yai resort from the whimsy and creativity of Bangkok-based American landscape architect Bill Bensley is set to open its doors to guests next month.
Inspired by the golden era of train travel and originally set to open in December, the Intercontinental Khao Yai will finally open its doors to the public Aug. 22.
The resort includes 45 rooms and 19 suites and villas within heritage train cars.
It will house three restaurants: farm-to-table restaurant Somying Kitchen, high tea spot Tea House, and the French-inspired Poirot Brasserie. Also on the property is the Papillon Bar, set in a train carriage and serving classic French cuisine, cocktails, and a list comprising high-end wines and whiskeys.
The venue was designed by Bensley, who was inspired by Khao Yai’s history as a rail hub connecting Bangkok to the northeastern region during the reign of King Rama V. In Bensley fashion, the design takes that heritage up a level, leaning on a fictional world: The story of a train conductor named Somsak who explored Thailand and its neighboring countries during the time.
Rooms start at THB7,000 per night for a King Classic (one bedroom), and go up to THB14,800 for a one-bedroom lake view pool suite. Guests can book online.
Intercontinental Khao Yai is located in the Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province in Khao Yai National Park.
