Starbucks on Central’s Duddell Street, known for its nostalgic “bing-sutt”—or local Hong Kong cafe—interior, will be closing next month, the coffee chain announced on Facebook.
“The time has come for us to say goodbye, as the store will close its doors in mid-October,” Starbucks wrote. “Come bid farewell, enjoy our beverages and exclusive bing sutt classic food offerings, and step back into the past with us one last time!”
Promoted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board as a cafe with “retro-inspired decor” and “great photo opportunities,” the outlet on Duddell Street is a partnership with lifestyle brand Goods of Desire.
The cafe, which opened in 2009, features vintage tiled flooring, cha chan teng-style seating and 80s-looking memorabilia hanging on the fake windows. Visitors can find local snacks like pineapple and cocktail buns on the menu.
It’s one of two retro-themed Starbucks in Hong Kong—the second is on Sai Yee Street in Mong Kok.
