German bar-restaurant Starker announced yesterday its seven outlets have ceased operations.

While its announcement to customers said it was a difficult decision to make, it did not directly blame the economic malaise gripping restaurants and other business owners experiencing months of deep losses. Starker has only been able to provide takeaway and delivery services since the start of Singapore’s “circuit breaker” lockdown, mostly from its outlet in Zhongshan Park.

“We thank all who have supported us since we tapped our first barrel of beer and enjoyed every pint of refreshing beer with us. It is with heavy heart that a difficult decision has to be made and we will cease operations of all Starker outlets,” the restaurant said. “We may be back to tap and when we do, let’s come together and celebrate. Prost!”

The note was titled “Goodbye, for now.”

Some of Starker Group’s restaurants were also found in Punggol, Katong, and the Jem shopping center.

Messages seeking further comment were not immediately returned.
