An MTR train conductor was found unconscious on a road under a set of elevated tracks in the New Territories after she apparently walked away from her train, leaving it at the platform full of passengers.
Citing an account provided by the MTR, RTHK reports that at around 9:45pm, a Hung Hom-bound West Rail Line train was found to be sitting stationary, with its driver absent, at Long Ping station, even after passengers had boarded.
Station staff were later informed by citizens that a person in an MTR uniform had been found lying on the road near the station’s Exit F.
Service on the West Rail Line resumed at around 10pm after the MTR control room dispatched another driver to take over the carriage.
In a statement, police said that the woman was identified as a 25-year-old female, surnamed Lam, who was sent to the Pok Oi Hospital unconscious. She died after being transferred to Tuen Mun hospital.
Police added that a preliminary investigation indicated she had been run over by a vehicle on the road near Long Yip Street after falling from a height. They added that nothing suggested foul play.
Despite failing to find a notes at the scene, the case is currently being treated as a suspected suicide, while authorities await the results of an autopsy.
The MTR has said it will fully cooperate with the police investigation, and offered help to the driver’s family, Ming Pao reports.
