(Video) CCTV shows pro-democracy activist being chased down alleyway by attackers

CCTV posted online shows the moment pro-democracy activist Tommy Cheung was chased by two unknown men down an alley.

The 23-year-old posted on Tuesday that he was beaten by two dark-skinned non-ethnic Chinese men aged around 30 to 40 years old near his election office at about 11pm on Monday night.

Video obtained by investigative news agency Factwire shows Cheung, carrying a 7-Eleven umbrella, walk into the entrance of the alleyway and look over his shoulder as he begins to jog.

A few seconds later, two men with can be seen walking towards the alleyway before breaking into a run.

Cheung suffered injuries to his head and hand and was taken to hospital, where he spoke with police about the incident.

He also posted on Facebook that he had been sent a razor blade wrapped in a newspaper clipping with the Chinese character for “kill” written on it.

The apparent threat came after Cheung aired allegations that two companies linked to pro-establishment figures where involved in a bid rigging network.

The activist is one of three contenders in upcoming primaries to select a single pro-democracy candidate to run in the upcoming Legislative Council by-election for the New Territories East constituency in March.
