At around 10am today, Bangkok witnessed a sun halo, a phenomenon in which a full 360 degree rainbow is seen encircling the sun.
Netizens tweeted pictures of the beautiful rainbow from many corners of Bangkok this morning.
Usually seen in early hours, a sun halo is a natural optical phenomenon where light reflects tiny ice crystals in the lowest level clouds. A sun halo occurs on days where humidity in the air is especially high.
According to a Thai belief, a sun halo is a symbol of luck. Thais of yesteryear also believed that a sun halo would mean victory in times of war.
