More than 1,000 dog skulls unearthed in Ayutthaya

While extinguishing a blaze at a garbage dump earlier this week, firefighters in Ayutthaya discovered more than 1,000 dog skulls buried along with the site’s refuse. This cache of skulls has led some to speculate that the dogs were killed in order to provide grist to a nearby meatball plant.

The garbage dump, located near the Wang Noi district, was not officially designated for the purpose of dumping and in fact had a “For Sale” sign planted on its premises. This clandestine status may have helped meatball manufacturers disguise their activities.

The Bangkok Post reports that locals at the site speculated that meatball manufacturers may have intentionally set fire to the impromptu dump in order to help disguise evidence of their wrongdoing.
