War of Words: Hong Kong activists fight against Mandarin and Simplified Chinese (COCONUTS TV)

In Cantonese-speaking Hong Kong, many schools have adopted Putonghua as the medium of instruction for Chinese language classes. While the Education Bureau encourages this, some Hongkongers feel this is a threat to their heritage and culture.

Last month, Coconuts TV spoke to activists who took to the streets of Causeway Bay to protest what they see as the “mainlandisation” of Hong Kong.
