Each month as the full moon approaches, thousands of partiers flock to the Thai island of Koh Phangan for the notorious Full Moon party – a night of hedonistic, drunken debauchery. The origins of the party hearken back to 1988, when hippies would gather under the moonlight on Haad Rin beach, strumming guitars and smoking weed. But today, the beach is filled with bucket-drinking tourists dancing to blasting electronica past dawn.
