Monkey shows. Raucous music. Man-powered ferris wheels. And scores upon scores of fireworks launched into the sky from huge hot-air balloons.
That was the glittering and deadly Tazaundaing Festival of Lights, held last week in Taunggyi, the capital of Myanmar’s Shan State, to mark the end of the rainy season.
