Yangon police are asking the public for help in identifying a man who was found dead on a YBS 61 bus on Monday, the third such case this summer.

Officials are still trying to determine where exactly the man boarded the bus, which runs from West Yangon Technological University in Hlaingtharyar to Sule. However, witnesses recalled that when the bus stopped at Shwe Gone Daing, the man saw an empty seat and went to sit down. He then rested his head in the space between the headrest and the window, and fell asleep.

However, when the vehicle later approached the stop at the corner of Thukha and Insein Roads, other passengers noticed that there was something weird about the way the man was sleeping.

They informed the bus driver, who unsuccessfully tried to wake up the man. Worried, the driver immediately drove the bus to Insein Hospital, where hospital employees confirmed that the man was dead. No external injuries were found.

The man had no forms of identification on him, although authorities guess that he was probably a Yangon resident. A case has been opened at the Hlaing Police Station, and authorities are now reaching out to the public to help identify the deceased.

A photo of the deceased can be found on the Yangon Police Facebook page. If you know the man in question or have any valuable information regarding the case, please contact Hlaing Police Station Commander Thein Swe Myint at 09250283275, or Sub-Inspector Khin Soe at 09953184452.

This is the third case in recent months of a deceased passenger being found on a bus in Yangon. In June, police were called to Aung Mingalar Bus Station after a man was found dead on a highway bus that drove from Taunggyi to Yangon. Less than a week later, another deceased man was found on a bus that arrived in Yangon from Myawaddy in Kayin State.
