Wild elephant found shot to death in Bago Region

Police in Bago Region are searching for the killers of a wild elephant found shot to death in a pool of water on Friday.

Pictures showed the body of the eight-foot tall male floating in Yenwe Creek.

Local rangers and police made the gruesome discovery after a security staffer for the Yenwe Dam reportedly heard the creature roaring while he was patrolling near the complex gate.

They pulled the body from the water using boats, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported.

Zaw Min Tun, deputy head of the region livestock breeding and veterinary department, told the paper that the mammal died from gunshot wounds.
