Traffic police officer suffers brain hemorrhage while on duty

It’s getting hot out there even by Yangon standards, and authorities have repeatedly issued warnings to citizens to keep themselves hydrated and not stay out in the sun for too long. Sadly, 7Day reports that one Yangon police cop passed away due to the hot weather while on duty .

Around noon on Tuesday, Corporal Myint Kyaw Oo, a 30-year-old traffic police officer who was stationed in Mayangone at the corner of Waizayandar and Gandamar Roads, was taking a break in the traffic light police shelter when he passed out. The corporal’s cousin brother, who was coming to deliver him lunch, was the first to find him and immediately took him to the hospital. Unfortunately, Myint Kyaw Oo died within the hour. Doctors have determined that cause of death was a brain hemorrhage due to the high outside temperatures.

According to Weather Underground, the temperature at noon on Tuesday was 33C with a heat index — which is how hot it actually feels when humidity is also factored in — of 39C. The high for that day was 34C.

Myint Kyaw Oo joined the traffic police force in 2004. Originally from Kayin State, he was transferred to Yangon in 2013 and promoted to the role of corporal in July 2016. He leaves behind a wife and a two and a half year old daughter.
