Thai authorities arrested 15 Myanmar nationals yesterday after they were caught with fake visa stamps in their passports.

The 15 individuals were staying at a rented house in the Tha Muang District of central Thailand’s Kanchanaburi Province. Soldiers and immigration police raided the house around 10:30pm after receiving a tip-off. There, they found the group in front of the house with their bags.

Although their passports were authentic, their Thai visa stamps turned out to be forged.

One of the arrested women told the Bangkok Post that a Myanmar broker had brought them there under the promise of jobs for all of them. Each person had paid THB12,000 (approximately MMK 483,000) to the broker, who then left them behind and absconded with all of the cash.

The Post identified the homeowner as 43-year-old Yao, also a Myanmar citizen.

The 15 men and women have been charged with illegal entry, and will be deported back to Myanmar.
