Heads-up, Yangon — parts of the city are scheduled to experience temporary power cuts between 12 pm and 2 pm today, the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation has announced.
The cuts are due to a city-wide electrical clean-up project, with the majority of work seemingly taking place today. According to the Corporation, the clean-up includes sorting, repairing, and replacing electric wires, assessing and servicing electrical sub-stations, and cutting down trees that are interfering with wires or towers.
Of the areas in the Yangon district that will be affected according to 7Day, these are the townships located within central Yangon:
- Ahlone
- Bahan
- Dagon
- East Dagon
- Hlaing
- Hlaingtharyar
- Kamaryut
- Kyeemyingnaing
- Mayangone
- Mingaladon
- Sanchaung
- Shwepyithar
But that’s not all — due to the work being done at several electrical sub-stations around the city, a few other townships not on the above list might also experience some power loss earlier in the day. They are:
- 8 am – 1 pm: North Dagon, North Okkalapa, South Okkalapa, Yankin
- 9 am – 12 pm: Kyauktan, Thanlyin
- 2 pm – 3 pm: Dawpon, Thaketa
It’s annoying, but maybe this clean-up will mean that there won’t be any more significant power cuts in the near future? (Hey, we can dream…)
