Three men have been arrested for stabbing a teenage girl after she declined a romantic proposal from one of them.

The man who initially made the proposal has been identified as 31-year-old Kyaw San Win. He and the victim both resided in the same village in Hpakant Township.

On Tuesday, he approached the girl and confessed his feelings for her, but the latter rejected him.

“[Kyaw San Win] told this girl that he loved her. The girl refused him and swore at him. The guy couldn’t handle it, so he stabbed her to death,” an officer on the case told Kumudra.

The 15-year-old victim was stabbed 18 times with a knife that measured approximately 18 inches. She died on the way to the hospital.

Authorities were able to locate and arrest the three men the next day.

Police also confirmed that while it was only Kyaw San Win who actually stabbed the girl and is being tried for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, his friends, Nay Zaw Oo, 26, and Ba Saw, 31, were present at the scene and are also being charged as accomplices under Section 114.
