The winning numbers of the second Aung Bar Lay MMK500 state lottery have been announced, and yesterday one lucky — and now extremely rich — Yangon citizen stepped up to claim their rightful K1,000,000,000 jackpot.

The individual has been identified as Aye Tun, a resident of Yangon Region’s Htantabin Township. And while we ourselves might go a little wild at first upon hearing that we’ve won so much dough, Aye Tun has more tame and honorable intentions than us. As reported by Kumudra, he wants to first build a house for him and his family, before taking everyone in his village on a pilgrimage to Bagan. Afterwards, he wants to donate some money to go towards building a community hall in the village. He also stated that there are a lot of charities and institutions to which he wants to donate money that he hasn’t even begun to think about putting it towards starting a business.

Apparently Aye Tun is lucky when it comes to lotteries  — he had also won K50,000 lottery prizes on two separate past occasions, although obviously that doesn’t even come close to his latest winnings.

Weirdly enough, about three days before the most recent numbers were drawn, a friend’s young daughter randomly said to him, “Uncle, you’re going to win the lottery. If you win, please make me a necklace.”

“I kept thinking that I would win both before and after I bought the ticket. But I didn’t think I’d win such a big prize,” he admitted.

Following the announcement of the winning numbers, officials were flooded with people claiming that they had the winning ticket; unfortunately, almost all of them turned out to be fakes that had been sold by con artists, despite authorities’ repeated warnings of such scams.

Big congratulations to Aye Tun, and on a side note, maybe his friend’s daughter can help us out with our next set of lottery tickets?
