Over two years after the lawsuit was first filed, a verdict has finally been reached in the case against Kyaw Myint, the owner of Father Land Construction.

The case centered around a 12-storey building that Kyaw Myint had begun constructing several years ago on a plot of land in the middle block of Pansodan Street, despite the fact that he had not acquired a construction permit from the YCDC. To make matters worse, he had also forged the landowner’s signature and handed in falsified documents.

On September 2014, the plaintiff and original landowner, Soe Min Htet, filed a case against Kyaw Myint, citing the forged paperwork and the latter’s failure to draw up the new building’s designs and finish construction in a timely manner.

The case was first opened at the Kyauktada Township Court, but was then transferred to the Latha Township Court in March 2015.

Kyaw Myint was charged under Sections 420 (“Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property”) and 468 (“Forgery of purpose of cheating”) of the Penal Code, and was sentenced to five years jail time for each offense. However, the judge ordered that both sentences be combined, meaning he will only serve one five-year jail sentence.

If you think he’s getting off easy, don’t worry — Kyaw Myint is also currently facing charges at the Botahtaung, Bahan, Thingangyun, and Lanmadaw Township Courts.
