Powerful 6.8 earthquake shakes central Myanmar near Meiktila: USGS

A powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook central Myanmar at around 5:05pm local time, with tremors felt as far away as Dhaka and Bangladesh.

The epicenter was some 88 miles west of Meiktila, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Yangon residents reported feeling buildings shake.
