New Yangon domestic terminal to open this Friday

After watching the majority of international flights fly in and out of Yangon International Airport’s shiny Terminal 1 with its fancy KFC and Burger King for the better part of a year, all Yangon domestic flights will soon also be getting a new, hopefully equally-shiny, home.

A notice has been put up in the current Yangon domestic terminal announcing that Yangon International Airport’s new Terminal 3, which will handle all inbound and outbound domestic flights, will officially open this coming Friday (December 9).

Admittedly, the opening of the terminal is slightly delayed from the original anticipated date. Earlier this year, officials told local media that Terminal 3 would be opened in November.

We’re glad that it’s finally here nonetheless.

However, as the saying goes, you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. For all its flaws, we’ll miss the charming soon-to-be-ex-domestic terminal, haphazard check-in counters and all.
