State-owned network Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) has seen a 3 million user increase over the last year, the organization said at a press conference yesterday, as quoted by Mizzima.

The conference was held to celebrate the official launch of MPT’s LTE+ services. While MPT first introduced limited 4G last October, the new LTE+ technology is reportedly twice as fast as previous versions.

Mr. Toshitake Amamiya, CEO of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations called the network “the best in Myanmar,” and claimed that “Data users will feel the incredible difference as they download or send large files, play data-intensive games or stream high definition videos at just a fraction of the time through our boosted cell towers.”

Speaking at the conference, Deputy General Manager Thein Hote also stated that the network now boasts 23 million users — 3 million more than just last May when they recorded 20 million users. To compare, MPT had 6 million users in September 2014.

The new LTE+ network is available in 47 townships in Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw. MPT has also stated that they plan on launching LTE+ in Bago, Taunggyi, Mawlamyaine, Monywa and Pathein by the end of July, and in over 30 cities by the end of September.

MPT is the last provider to offer 4G services in Myanmar; the first was Ooredoo who launched its 4G network last May, followed by Telenor who launched two months later.
