Firefighters were dispatched to Yangon’s Ahlone Township in Yangon on Sunday evening after residents reported that a monkey was on the loose and roaming nearby alleys.

“We received a report about a monkey roaming in the alleys, so respective authorities, rescuers from our department, and veterinarians captured it, as we are concerned about public safety,” an official from the Yangon Fire Services Department told Eleven.

The rescuers captured the monkey using a tranquilizer gun and transferred it to the Forestry Department for relocation.

It is not yet known where the monkey came from or where it will be sent.

In May, two women were injured after a visitor to the Yangon Zoological Gardens released three monkeys from their cage. The zoo took responsibility for the monkey attacks and pledged to make its cages more secure.
