A pair of middle and high schoolers in Mandalay are being tried for rape after they allegedly molested two elementary school-aged girls.

As reported by The Voice, all four children resided in the same neighborhood in Mandalay’s Chanmyathazi Township. The girls — who are sisters, and are in grades one and two — lived right next door to the middle schooler.

On June 25, one of the girls’ relatives who also lived in the neighborhood saw them coming out of the neighboring middle schooler’s house. They tried to ask the girls why they had been over there, but the sisters refused to answer. Concerned, the relative informed the girls’ mom. It was only when the mother asked her daughters what they were doing there that they admitted that they had been molested. The first grader said she was raped twice, and the second grader once.

According to an Aung Pin Le police officer, the culprits are aged 14 and 12, and are in grades nine and seven, respectively.

An investigation has been launched, and the two boys are facing rape charges under Section 376 of the Myanmar Penal Code.
