A 40-year-old man was seized by residents of the Shwepyitha Industrial Zone while he was attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl at 11am on November 21, the local police station reported.

The victim is a student in the eight grade.

The suspect is a motorbike taxi driver. He was captured after he pushed the victim into some bushes while she was on her way to school and attempted to rape her.

Deputy Officer Win Myint from the Shwepyitha police station told The Voice: “Parents should let reliable persons take care of their children if they can’t take care of their children by themselves. It is time to not trust everyone.”

The suspect has been charged under Section 376 (“Punishment for Rape”) of the Myanmar Penal Code.
