Listen up! No more blaring loudspeakers in Yangon without permission

People who harangue Yangon residents with loudspeakers will face punitive action unless they have obtained permits, the minister for border and security affairs in the city has said.

Permits must be applied for three days in advance, Tin Aung Htun told the regional parliament, according to Eleven Media.

The announcement came after Khine Mar Htay, an MP for Hlaing Township, asked: “Is there any plan to take action in quarters and villages about loud speakers, as they can affect health and education?”

Those who violate the rules will face a maximum fine of K5,000 or a 7-day prison stay, said Tin Aung Htun.

“Even if they got permission, they can only do it at a particular time.”

Hopefully that means in the hours of daylight…
