The Kokkine flyover has opened

After more than five months of roadworks, the flyover at Kokkine junction has opened.

The overpass, on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road in Bahan Township, is one of several built in the city over the past couple of years in an attempt to beat the mounting traffic crisis.

Companies awarded contracts include FMI, Capital Development and Shwe Taung, whose chairman, Aik Htun, was once suspected by the US Treasury of ties to the narcotics trade.

The Kokkine project cost more than K13.9 billion, the Standard Times reported.

The ceremony to celebrate the opening won’t be held until February 10, however.

Can’t wait.
