Four Myanmar migrant workers murdered in Malaysia

The bodies of four Myanmar migrant workers were discovered by police in Kota Bharu, Malaysia, on October 31. They are thought to have been kidnapped and murdered by a group of nine people, according to an official from the Myanmar Embassy in Malaysia.

U Chit Kaung from the Migrant Workers Assistance Organisation in Malaysia said he heard the police chief in Kota Bharu say that the murders are related to “local problems in Myanmar”.

The four victims are Min Zaw Linn, 20; Thet Naing Soe, 22; Thet Naing Win, 30; and Maung Maung Soe, 31.

An official from the Myanmar Embassy in Malaysia said “one of the four Myanmar [victims] went out to the market, where some people followed after him. Then, [the victims] were kidnapped. Two swords were found at the place where it happened. During the investigation, police found CCTV footage of two men buying swords. Our embassy also collaborated with the Malaysian police to investigate the case.”

According to Malaysian police, the four Myanmar nationals were kidnapped on October 25.

In a separate incident, masked attackers on bikes came into a dormitory where Myanmar migrant workers were staying on July 11 and robbed and killed 3 Myanmar nationals. Malaysian police have not solved that case.
